Private Jet For Sale – Don’t Pay Too Much! Private Jet For Sale – What is Your Jet Worth?

Buying a Private Jet? Don't Pay Too Much! Private Jet for Sale? What Is Your Jet Worth?

This is Jim Julius. If you are buying a jet airplane or have a private jet for sale, this is a huge decision involving lots of dollars and you wouldn't make that kind of a decision in any other business without all the information. We're gong to show you today how you can have the all the information to make the right decision.

. Aircraft appraisals — fast nationwide service. (941) 355-3900.

Am I paying the right price for a pre-owned jet? How much is my jet worth?

We're going to look at four common methods used to value aircraft.

Valuation Method #1: Trade Magazines.

Yes…even corporate buyers take a peek at the trades to get relative pricing information.

There is nothing to stop an uninformed or unmotivated seller from asking $2.5 million for an aircraft the market is valuing at $1.2 million.

…and the other thing you don't know is how long that overpriced aircraft has been on the market.

Don't confuse asking price with market value!

Valuation Method #2: Aircraft Bluebook

Paid service — online or paperback. Somewhat inexpensive and widely used. Not a fan of how data is collected for this publication. Tends to push everything to average. Might be okay if you are valuing an 'average' aircraft! My advice — use as a guideline only!

Valuation Method #3: Aircraft Brokers/Agents

High-volume, specializes in your make and model = should know the market.
Low-volume, sells 'whatever walks in the door' = may not be as familiar with the current market conditions of your specific het aircraft

The better question may be: are they unbiased about the market for the aircraft they're trying to sell you?

Let's follow the money. Brokers are paid by sellers, and usually on a contingent basis, the higher the selling price the higher the commission.
Does this make them crooks? Certainly not. Does it give the potential for bias as it comes to the aircraft they are representing? Maybe.

Valuation Method #4: Certified Aircraft Appraiser

James Julius, Senior Certified Aircraft Appraiser/USPAP. Why hire an appraiser? Because they are; 1) Independent to your transaction — not selling….not buying — they are working for YOU! 2) Trained and certified by National Aircraft Appraisers Association. 3) Trained to USPAP standards — Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Your assurance of an independent, high-quality valuation to ethical appraisal standards.

Common users of aircraft appraisals. Lenders/Bank Underwriters require certified appraisals to USPAP standards. Attorneys/U.S. Court Systems require certified appraisals to USPAP standards. Insurance Underwriters/Adjusters require certified appraisals to USPAP standards. Government Agencies, including the IRS require certified appraisals to USPAP standards.

Shouldn't you be using a certified, independent appraiser for your aircraft purchase or sales transaction?

My Audio Recording Device:
The average private jet cost millions of dollars to own and maintain each year. But some older light to mid size jets actually cost less than one may think. The private jets listed in this video are all aircrafts you can find for sale at less that a million dollars. The airplanes listed here are:

1. Cessna Citation Mustang (2007 – 2008) – $950,000
The citation mustang was Cessnas main very light jet until a year ago when they stopped manufacturing this airplane. For the last decade though, the Citation mustang has been one of the most popular small private jets in the industry. The airplane will cruise at close to 400 miles per hour and you can fly up to 6 people in the aircraft. Depending on load, you can travel up to 1300 miles.

2. Eclipse 500 Jet (2006 – 2008) – $500,000 – $700,000
Also a very light jet, the eclipse 500 has some respectable performance numbers. A bit faster than the citation mustang, the eclipse 500 also boast better fuel economy at some levels. Although since the newer generation eclipse 550 came out plus the introduction of other light jets like the cirrus sf50, the 500 have dropped even further in price.

3. Citation Bravo II (1979 – 1982)
Here is one of Cessnas oldest model class of jets. The citation brave have been around since the 70s, and even newer models that may have improved interior and or avionics, the performance have remained somewhat the same. And the design of the aircraft is still same as it was 30 years ago. Right now, the earliest models of this jet can be bought for $400,000 to $500,000.

4. Learjet 31A (1992 – 1997)
Private jet from bombardier, the 31A model is a superb aircraft with great performance. One that will carry up to 11 people on board and travel over 500 miles per hour. Get your hands on one for less than $400,000

5. Learjet 24D (1966 – 1974)
Also from bombardier. This is quite vintage, but still a great looking and performing jet if you can find one. Probably will need some renovations or restoration, but for $150,000 purchase price to own a private jet? well you decide.
